Everything is reduced from
overwhelming to miniature
plaguing concerns
irrelevant
when you realise, suddenly,
that you cannot fly - not actually -
and if your aircraft crashes
it will be over
in a second.
There's no time for more
than an instant of regret
a couple of people you hurt
or offended
a couple of tasks left undone
But you know those people
will forgive you - and someone else
will do those tasks.
And just a moment left to wonder
whether
in the long run
you managed to live or not.
I fly much more often than
I would wish to.
